My 2012 Polaris Switchback Assault

Well last november i slapped down my money for a 2012 polaris switchback assault. this is the 144" track with the new 800CC engine.
and of course this was one of the worst winters ever so i only got to put 40 miles on it. not even broken in yet.
Just thought id slap some pics up!

this is when i first got it from the dealer.

sittin at home.

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f5...3/a4a34b0c.jpg

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f5...3/3524df98.jpg

fired it up for the second time in its life.
mmmm gotta love that 2 stroke smoke

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f5...3/6d5b6e47.jpg

first mod i knew i wanted was wider skis for deep snow. picked up some polaris Gripper skis, these things are amazing for a factory product. and naturally, i got red since blac is plain and boring!

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f5...3/7f8f1d50.jpg

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f5...3/e5689497.jpg

compared to the old stock skis.
much wider

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f5...3/39e888b6.jpg

heard a rumor a buddies brother picked up the same sled as me, so right away i ordered a decal kit and got that installed.

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f5...3/4f905dc9.jpg

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f5...3/f5d3ec23.jpg

also threw on some handguards

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f5...3/ffe368ea.jpg

heres with the last few pieces of the wrap on, as well as a new powder coated bumper

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f5...3/e6f714eb.jpg

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f5...3/16fada16.jpg

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f5...3/9a94be93.jpg

then i threw on a gas can rack

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f5...3/8841327f.jpg

thats pretty much all i did this year, when it finally snowed in march, i got to ride it, and test its limits. i thought no way in hell id get through this stuff as it was blown in, hard packed underneath the few inches of powder, and i was right. but i did make it farther than i though. now i know the limits! (ps. did this on purpose, i was literally right across from my house haha0

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f5...3/fee572e0.jpg

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f5...3/c142528d.jpg

she dug right down to the ground. bought 4' from the bottom of the skis to the ground. shoveled the front down a bit, and she pulled right now.
really amazing machine, so glad i decided to go with the new polaris's. these new engines are truely fantastic.

cant wait till i get some real miles on it.

oppo 04-23-2012 12:45 PM

Very nice sled. I love the skulls.

SBA800 04-23-2012 12:49 PM

thanks man! yeah the skull decals are one of my favorite mods i did. looks so perfect

AngryBird 04-23-2012 05:29 PM

That's a sick sled! I need to get one for the mountains north of here. Would be awesome!

BIRDMAN 04-23-2012 05:41 PM

yeah man theyre awesome sleds. the new 800 motor they have is amazing. simply amazing. and mines not even broken in yet! they used to have problems with their old 800 so a lot of people were skeptical on the new ones, but i tell ya, so glad i got one. id definately reccomend it over any other sled out there.

well top speed as reported by other owners is about 100-110 MPH.
ive only had mine up to about 70MPH as im not supposed to go wide open till after a full tank of gas. engine and drive belt need to be broken in first, otherwise i could blow it all!
but it gets there quick, before i knew it i was passing cars on the highway. did not expect that at all.

p.s. my old sled was from 1983, so this 150 HP machine literally almost tore my arms outta their socket when i first gave it some gas

yeah its damn fast.
may not sound fast, but when your flying 100MPH through a field of white powder, with nothing surrounding you to keep you safe, it seems damn fast haha

oppo 05-02-2012 09:44 AM

Yeah, there is a big difference between on and off highway speeds as well as with and without a cage around you. There is more of a sense of speed on the bike or quad and at the same speed, the quad feels as if it is going faster due to being offroad where the bike is glass smooth. The bike's top speed is a hoot though until you get used to it. The most I have hit on the quad was 80 and that was with the 30's on it under ideal conditions. Another 30 mph and on snow would kick ass. :D

SBA800 05-02-2012 10:55 PM

its so much fun man, its like your floating... but at 110 mph.
thats the best way to describe it lol

Humvee21 05-03-2012 09:20 PM

100 MPH in that? Sounds like a deathwish.

I'm digging the decals though. Looks sweet!

naw its not a deathwish unless your reckless.
its like anything, gotta treat it with respect.
i think it will be a while before i hit that speed though, when i had it going 70 it was damn scary fast.

on a smooth lake though 100 would be so fun.
and thanks on the decals, they are pretty mean lookin. i think i have the perfect amount of red on there now

Humvee21 05-04-2012 01:23 AM

We needa see videos of you tearin it up man. Next winter I guess?

SBA800 05-04-2012 10:42 PM

well ive got one, its pretty shitty due to very low snow conditions, my brother was bitching that people could see how to get to his place and they might steal his shit (hes a tad strange sometimes) so ive got it hidden, PM me for a link.

SBA800 10-17-2012 02:54 PM

well its getting to be that time of year again. started doing inventory on what id need for the year, plugs, belts, oil etc. got a list of what i need, and while i was inspecting the sled for shit that may not be quite right, i decided to pull it out and fire it up. been to long since ive had it running and i just couldnt help myself. so i started it up and sat on it for about 5 minutes. felt good. cant wait till it snows.

Dude, that thing is awesome, nice work on the mods! :)

So what do you have to do to get unstuck, dig it out a ramp to climb up onto? What if you are over like 6 foot of snow?

SBA800 10-17-2012 09:50 PM

just gotta dig the front end down a bit or get the rear on some fresh snow. they dont get stuck easily.

heres a good video showing how much of a beast these things are.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCh59r-1RyQ

only reason i got stuck up there was the ski got caught in that barrel. and the track dug all the way down to the ground (4+ feet) giving it no snow to bite.

nosbusa 10-18-2012 01:29 AM

radio speakers and a sub and you are set....

SBA800 10-18-2012 11:09 AM

ha. uh no.

nosbusa 10-18-2012 11:22 AM

a bumping sled, what else could you want?

And THAT is why I am snowchecking a 2014 800 PRO RMK when spring rolls around...provided my truck doesn't give me any big issues between now and then. I'm always amazed by the pros. What they can do is truly mind blowing.

SBA800 10-20-2012 08:35 AM

yeah its insane. so freakin light yet still incredibly strong and stiff. my buddy has a new '13 pro rmk 155. 417 lbs dry weight. thats insane.

nosbusa 10-20-2012 09:52 AM

put a busa motor in it...............

SBA800 10-20-2012 10:27 AM

nah. how much power do busa motors make

nosbusa 10-20-2012 10:57 AM

after mods..... 274rwhp

SBA800 10-20-2012 10:58 AM

how bout stock lol.

nosbusa 10-20-2012 11:01 AM

the new ones are 197hp with 114ft of torque

SBA800 10-20-2012 11:17 AM

not bad at all. probably heavier engines though i imagine.
my sled stock makes 155HP. turbo, could probably easily get around 250 reliably.

nosbusa 10-20-2012 11:25 AM

the bike weighs just over 500lbs i think

SBA800 10-20-2012 11:39 AM

not bad. not light but not heavy.

heres the new track i want. crossing my fingers i can snatch it up

http://www.hartmaninc.com/fotos/2002camo01.jpg

compared to my current track.

http://cdn.polarisindustries.com/SNO...slt_144_f7.jpg

nosbusa 10-20-2012 11:45 AM

dont run over your foot with that thing

SBA800 10-20-2012 11:47 AM

hahah if i ride over my foot, i probably deserve whatever happens lol. but yeah, would be painful.

clkelley 10-20-2012 04:26 PM

Very sharp indeed!

SBA800 10-20-2012 04:27 PM

thanks clkelley
