Looks like damage from straight line winds.

here in ca, you have to try to get a permit to cut down trees ON your property. pretty damn lame. you have all these tree hugging dirt worshippers that say its harmful to the environment if you cut it down. i wouldnt have any large trees next to my house for the reason of it potentially doing this

I hear ya bro, I love trees too, but my house is more important. My neigbor next door has a big one like that, I'm hoping she does something with it, at least cut it in half. fuggin thing is like 80 foot tall.

hopefully, what just happened to you other neighbor will make them think twice about big trees next to the house. its not worth it when you consider whats in your house

Good thing is it's in the back yard and 90 percent of the time storm winds blow NW to SE here, that's what happened to that house across the street, wind was coming from the north.

Oh, I talked to a customer today, he is on the outskirts of Seaside Heights NJ. He said he just got power back on yesterday. And the town of Seaside is basically gone. 2 million dollar homes washed off their foundations into the streets and sand dunes with car chassis sticking out of them.
